We believe everyone is an artist and has the capacity for creative expression when given the opportunity to feel safe and supported. One does not have to have any special art making skills to participate in art therapy. Art Therapists are trained to meet clients where they are and assist in exploration of art materials while working together to meet therapeutic goals.
Art therapy is used to treat a wide range of mental health issues, including:
It is also used as a complementary treatment for individuals with physical or medical conditions such as chronic pain, cancer, and terminal illness.
To partner with Dallas Art Therapy, you can reach out us via the Contact Us button. Some potential ways to partner with Dallas Art Therapy include donating to the cause, volunteering your time and resources, or collaborating on a project or event that aligns with our mission. It may be helpful to discuss specific ideas and goals for the partnership with a representative from Dallas Art Therapy.
A master’s degree is required for entry-level practice in art therapy. Minimum educational and professional standards are established by the American Art Therapy Association, Inc. (AATA), a membership and advocacy organization.
At this time there are no Master degree programs for art therapy in the state of Texas. But there are several programs across the country that have online and in person coursework.
Start by visiting the American Art Therapy Association.
For for information about becoming an art therapist visit the Art Therapy Credentialing Board.
If you would like to speak with local art therapists you may reach out to North Texas Art Therapy Association or South Texas Art Therapy Association.
